The most important thing in brief:
This feature may well be an advantage for tablet owners who are struggling with limited storage space. However, I want all my files to be synced in the cloud and also available offline, as I used to with SkyDrive for Desktop.
If you want to specify the layout of the apps in the Windows 8 interface (Metro) in Windows 8, or create a backup of your personal layout, this can be achieved with a simple copy job.
All you have to do is create a template by arranging/adjusting the tiles according to your own wishes, making them larger/smaller, adding group names, etc. The file “appsFolder.itemdata-ms”, which is located in the user profile under “%localappdata%\ Microsoft\ Windows”, must then be copied and can now be used as a template.
This template can now be inserted and replaced in another user profile to provide the user with the desired tile layout. However, in order for the settings to take effect, the user must log out and log in again.
Step-by-step instructions in pictures:
Step 1 - Windows 8 Standard Menu

Step 2 - Customize the menu

Step 3 - Copy the appsFolder.itemdata-ms file from %LocalAppData%MicrosoftWindows

Step 4 - Log off user

Step 5 - Sign in as another user

Step 6 - Insert and replace the 'appsFolder.itemdata-ms' in %LocalAppData%MicrosoftWindows for another user

Step 7 - Sign out and log back in

Step 8 - New settings in effect
